Ultimate Whisky Chit Chat
The 21st of May is World Whisky Day 2016. Established in 2012, World Whisky Day takes place right around the world on the third Saturday annually in May in order to celebrate whisky. One hundred and seventy events are taking place this weekend.
This is a perfect time therefore to introduce you to UltimateWhiskyParty.com, a site for people who have a passion, love and enthusiasm for whisky.
We whisky drinkers are not insignificant in number, or an inconsequential fledgling minority cast adrift in our own sub-culture. Since becoming a founder member of a UK based whisky society, I have in no small way been more than a tad surprised, indeed delighted, by the number of people who have a significant interest, passion and zeal for whisky.
This platform is designed to provoke discussion and share whisky stories. Additionally it is to facilitate the increase in knowledge and appreciation of whisky. If you are like me, you will be all too aware that there is a lot to learn about when it comes to whisky. I am on a journey of learning and discovery; I hope you will join me.
To start this blog I have a question. I have had the great pleasure of drinking whisky ranging from low to high cost, from a few years old to some bottled even before the birth of my parents, from right across the globe to those produced within a mile of where I grew up. However, which whisky has been my favourite from the many I have had the pleasure of tasting over the last thirty years or so?
More importantly, what about you, what has been your favourite tipple and what memories does it invoke that would make for your ideal companion to drink on the 21st May?
In anticipation, Andy
My current favourite Whisky is Glen Garioch 1797 founders (sherry cask) with a beautiful piece of Coverdale Cheese
Hi Andy. I think that we need to organise a whisky event in Cockermouth. The world already knows that we have plenty of water, all that we need is a few cases of single malt plus a few bottles of Johnny Walker Black Label! Best wishes. Bill.
My preference is always for Highland or Speyside – nothing too peaty. Also got into some of the US bourbons – once you get away from Jack Daniels there are some very palatable drinks out there. Love Jura but again the original ones not the more peaty varieties.
After a wonderful trip all along the Spey and Speyside distilleries our favourite “Whisky of the Tour” is the keenly priced, smooth and delicious “Nadurra”.
The Nadurra series is Glenlivet’s range of 16 year old single malt Scotch whiskies, which have been matured in ex-bourbon casks and then bottled at cask strength with no chill-filtration. At £45 to £50 a bottle it’s a modern classic…..
